Anturium

Anturium (an armour. Anthurium) — a sort of plants of family Aroidnye, or Aronnikovye (Araceae). Probably, most numerous sort of the family, some sources total to 900 kinds.

The Latin name of a sort is formed from the Ancient Greek words meaning "flower" and "tail".

Occurs from tropical and subtropical areas Central and the South America. Northern border of an area is in Mexico, southern — in Paraguay and in the north of Argentina. Many kinds of this sort are land upright grasses, others, living in rainforests, in the course of evolution became creeping plants — lianas or эпифитами with air roots.

Антуриумы are popular thanks to "coverlets" which remind a huge petal and adjoin to inflorescences. The inflorescence forms an ear reminding a thick tail that has found reflexion in the plant name.
